Hi! My name is Jeni Sanders and I'm so happy to be teaching 4th grade. I love getting to know my new students at the beginning of each school year. I'm always amazed by the stories I hear, memories they share, and interests that occupy such a great part of their journeys. So, I thought I would share a little bit about me.
I have lived in Rutherford County all of my life. Smyrna public schools, cheer, gymnastics, dance, drama, and many other school clubs were home to me until I attended college down the street at MTSU. I earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree and a Master's of Education Degree.
I have been married to Rich Sanders for 20 years and we have 4 children. Yep, 4! Kelton is 18, Layken is 15, Chaston is 11, and Paisley is 7. My husband is a supervisor at Lee Company, and a real estate agent on the side. My oldest son, Kelton, is a cross country and track distance runner who trains hard everyday. Layken is on a competitive high school cheer team and enjoys flipping and cheering her way around everywhere she goes. Chaston plays basketball and loves to play games. Paisley plays t-ball and loves art . Our family enjoys traveling, setting and achieving goals, basketball games, cross country meets, cheer competitions, football and t-ball games, yummy restaurants, watching movies, and taking lots and lots of pictures. If we're making good memories, we're happy campers!
My family is also very invested in one of our favorite charity organizations called Soles4Souls. Soles4Souls is a local non-profit charity that collects and distributes shoes and clothing to people affected by poverty and natural disasters all over the world. For us, it all started a couple of years ago when Kelton and Layken decided to start asking people for used shoe donations instead of birthday gifts. It grew from there into a commitment that they made to collect 50,000 pairs of shoes for Soles4Souls. You heard it right, 50,000 pairs! They have currently collected 42,600 pairs of new and used shoes and aren't going to stop until they reach their goal. Wow! We went on our first mission trip to Haiti to distribute brand new shoes to kids at local orphanages and schools, in 2017. It was a life changing experience that we will never forget. :)
My career as a teacher started about 10 years ago, at Barfield Elementary, and I can't imagine teaching anywhere else. I love being a teacher and having a positive impact on so many growing lives. The content and curriculum I teach my students is extremely important, but to me it's always a goal of mine to make sure I'm fostering a love of learning, community, leadership, thinking, problem solving, and world changing mindsets. Our kids are our future, after all.
